Recently, real life has become more demanding for Quaxi, forcing him to spend less and less time on this project; this caused a great delay in releasing the new SimPe updates (the SimPe version published in the official download page still is not compatible with BV and Teen).
Answering to the many requests of SimPe users, and in agreement with Quaxi himself, PLJones has taken the burden to carry on the SimPE project, until Quaxi returns to leading the project.
While I personally can't help with the development of SimPE (not being a programmer myself), I'm trying to relieve PLJones at least from the burden to create an installer for the new SimPE versions and to keep this thread up-to-date: therefore, this will be my task 
But our biggest thanks go to Quaxi in the first place for having led the project so far (hoping that he will be back as soon as possible) and to PLJones for deciding to carry on the project while Quaxi is away.
As for the decision to post the download links in this threads, we had no choice: we can't update ourselves the SimPe site pages, and Quaxi - as said - is too busy to do it himself with the required frequency.
Of course, this is intended to be a temporary arrangement, until Quaxi won't be back with all his usual energy and creativity on the SimPe project.

| F.A.Q. - Frequently Asked Questions Q. I don't like installers because I don't know what they add in my Registry and system folders. A. You are wise, we should never trust blindly anything :) The installer performs exactly these tasks: - SimPe files are copied in the folder that you decided when asked by the installer. Absolutely NO files are copied in the system folders or in any other folders outside the one you decided.
- The icons are optionally created in the "Start Menu" (in the location you decided), on the Desktop and in the Quick Launch; the user can deactivate the creation of icons at all.
- The installer then adds to the Registry the following keys (ALL these keys are deleted when uninstalling):
- Required: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\SimPE_is1 (uninstall info)
- Required: HKCU\Software\Ambertation\SimPe (legacy key required for compatibility with older SimPE versions)
- Optional: 2 keys in HKCR for each file association requested by the user
If you want to examine the installer code yourself, find it attached to this post (the script has been created with Inno Setup). Q. Should I perform a "clean install", i.e. uninstall and remove all the SimPe components before using this installer? A. The installer automatically uninstalls all previous versions of SimPE. Your personal configuration files (layout and settings) won't be deleted, and will be used by the new SimPE. All the program files that you may have added or manually modified yourself won't be deleted, either (if you don't want them any more, you have to manually remove them before installing). Q. I can't find the Wizards of SimPE in the SimPE menus. A. The Wizards of SimPE are a separate program that must be started from its own icon in the Start Menu. If you selected the "Don't create icons" option while installing, then you have no choice but to find the file "Wizard or SimPE.exe" located in the program installation folder, and double-click on it. | Nice work you all, Happy this project will go on forever :-) :D just one q, the installer (what still works great except for one little thing)will select the default location... in my eyes this is normal (every installer does this) but if you don't change anything the link in your startmenu will also be 'default' instead of simPE is this intentional? |

| No, it wasn't intentional :P thanks to your report, I've found a tiny bug in the installer: whenever SimPE is installed for the first time (or it was completely removed before installing), the installer can't find the "previous" menu group where to put the icons, and defaults to a "(Default)" group. Now the problem is fixed: the installer currently online has this glitch fixed (no changes were made to SimPE itself: the correction relates to the installer only; so, redownloading isn't actually needed). |

Just to clear up this point, the SimPE program and the related source code are under the General Public Licence (GPL), that entitles everyone to distribute copies of the program (even charging for the file transfer service but not for the program itself). Therefore, you have the legal right to share the files, too; but we strongly advice not to do so, at least in the current developing stage, because the people that get the software from you will try and report possible problems and bugs to you. In the interest of the Community, we'd like to be the first referring point for anyone experiencing problems with SimPE (so to get first-hand bug reports), and this goal can't be achieved efficiently if multiple persons share multiple copies of SimPe without accepting the burden to offer assistance and support. On the other hand, anyone willing to share the news about the SimPe updates is extremely welcome: the more we spread the word, the more efficient will be the bugfixing and updating process. |

| I was just wondering before I install this new version should I just install it or do a clean install? What I mean by clean install is completely uninstall the old version and start from scratch installing the new one. Thank You to all for any help provided. |
