Member since: 2007-04-12 Posts: 292 | Issue: You have installed a new release of SimPE and afterwards Object Workshop is not displaying any or some of the objects you know to be part of your game and are supported by the version you just installed
Cause: usually this is because a new filetable was not created after installation of the new release that supports a new EP or SP or Stories. This usually happens because of files or data that was not cleaned up before the new SimPE was installed.
Verify: In SimPe > Extra > Preferences > System Check fails on one or more checks. In In SimPe > Extra > Preferences > System Folders the paths to your game files are either not correct or are missing
Windows XP installation: You need to be an administrator to install Simpe. Double- click on the Simpe-Installer.exe and follow the prompts. When you start simPE for the first time after this install you should be told that SimPE needs to rebuild your filetable. Allow it to do this. You should then be able to run Object Workshop and all the objects should now show up. If they do not see manual fix below.
Windows Vista Installation: You need to be an administrator to install Simpe. You will need to download the installer and save it to your computer so that you can right- click on the Simpe-Installer.exe and click 'run as adminitrator'. On Vista the installer needs to be told by your to act as admistrator to properly install files. Once SimPE is installed you need to go into the simPE directory and right click on the simpe.exe and choose properties. In properties choose the Compatability Tab and at the bottom check the box next to "Run As Administrator". When you start simPE for the first time after this install you should be told that SimPE needs to rebuild your filetable. Allow it to do this. You should then be able to run Object Workshop and all the objects should now show up. If they do not see manual fix below. **Note: Vista will ask you to allow SimPE to run as administrator each time you run it because you have checked the box allowing it to run using admin access - to make sure you are still allowing it too. This maybe a tad inconventient but early troubleshooting of SimPE issue with Vista has showed us this is the only way to make sure Vista and its permissions will not harass you while using SimPE. **Note: SimPE requires Microsoft .NetFrameworks which is not installed with Vista. Please make sure you install it from the link on the SimPE download page of the main site, and that it is running in services before trying to use SimPE.
Update 4/25/2008: Make sure that you have installed SimPE to a new directory - for more detailed information please refer to the FAQ about new Directory installation
MANUAL FIX: If a clean install of SimPE does not ask you to allow it to create a new filetable or you are still missing most of your objects you can force the filetable to rebuild by chosing the reset button in In SimPe > Extra > Preferences > System Folder and you can fix any incorrect paths in the same section by browsing to the appropriate game file.
If none of this works and your objects are still missing please run SimPe > Extra > Preferences > System Check and report any check that failed (if it failed) when you report the issue. | |
