you give advice on how to change the SimPE command line to solve SimPE's inability to open a *.simpe file created by Milkshape Sims2 Unimesh Exporter.

I have the same problem, but the advice does not work for me.  I am operating Windows XP 5.1 SP 3.  I downloaded Milkshape a few weeks ago.

My Direct X files are Microsoft's August 2009 version, which I downloaded a few weeks ago.  Tonight, before writing this message, I uninstalled my few-week-old SimPE and re-downloaded it from your site and re-installed it, in hopes that the problem would go away.

The following is the default command line for the SimPE desktop icon, where the quotation marks are included in the command line:

"C:\Program Files\SimPE\SimPe.exe"

Changing it to the following does not solve the problem:
"C:\Program Files\SimPE\SimPe.exe" -enable anypackage
"C:\Program Files\SimPE\SimPe.exe" "-enable anypackage"

Changing it to the following is not allowed by Windows:
"C:\Program Files\SimPE\SimPe.exe -enable anypackage"

I have not recorded all the other similar command lines I have tried, such as excluding the "-" or putting "enable anypackage" as a single word, but the various lines I have tried are either not allowed by Windows or do not solve the Milkshape incompatibility.

I realize this is free software and it cannot be expected to do everything anybody wants to do.  So I am not complaining.  But if there is no solution, perhaps the error message can be changed so as not to accuse the user of having a Spore file.

By the way, clicking "Details" on the error message does not yield anything.

Thanks for listening.

It's not that you were being ignored, it's that there isn't much traffic here and the traffic that has passed through here (me) doesn't know the answer.

You might have better luck asking at ModTheSims where there are more people who might be able to help you.

Where did you find a "few-week-old SimPE"?  It's not been worked on since last April, as far as I know.  What's the actual version number?

If clicking "Details" does nothing, you may need to manually enlarge the window to reveal the message details.

The "-enable anypackage" command line arguments only tell SimPe not to reject a package just because its header says it isn't a Sims2 package (i.e. DBPF 1.x).  It doesn't mean it will work with a file that isn't a Sims2 package.  It's still going to crash horribly.

I find it highly unlikely that Milkshape exports Electronic Arts Sims2 DBPF Package files, anyway.  I believe it creates resources that can be imported into a package, though.

SimPE version 0.72.1.3385.  "A few weeks" refers to how long ago I originally downloaded it.  After installing Direct X in response to error messages, I uninstalled SimPE, then downloaded and again installed it.  It no longer gives Direct X error messages.

Thank you for telling me how to get details.  They are:

What the message means is what it says: you're trying to use SimPe to edit a file it doesn't know how to edit.

SimPe is an editor for DBPF 1.x files.

If you try to get it to load other types of file, it isn't going to work.

Also, 0.72 isn't the latest version.  You should get 0.73.44.
