I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 installed and I'm wondering if SimPE will work just fine with it and what about the other software you state needs to be on the computer also like the NET Framework?

I don't have Windows 7, so my official answer is "I don't know".

But Windows 7 is supposed to be able to run anything that will run under Vista, and Vista will run SimPE if you have it set to "Run as Administrator" and are running it on an account that has administrator privilages, so Windows 7 should be able to run it as well.  (Although you will probably discover a few hoops you need to jump through first.)

It comes with the Net Framework, so there would be no problem with that.  Managed Direct X should be compatible; or at least the Microsoft site was implying that it is. I don't know if the legacy DDS tools will work or not, but they are fairly versitile. It wouldn't surprise me.

Bottom line: If you have Windows 7 and want to try SimPE, go ahead.

Just wanted to chime in to say that I (finally!) got the latest SimPE+M&G patch to work on my W7 (64 bit) computer, but to do so required setting it to run as compatible with XP service pack 3.

Without the compatibility setting it would let me open/backup Neighborhoods in my Documents folder, but would freeze up whenever I tried to open any object/mod/ect package files. I tried changing it to run as administrator (like the Vista instructions mentioned) but it was the compatibility change that finally did the trick.

Just thought I would post my experiance in case anyone else has the same problem! (I know other W7 64 bit useres who say they didn't have to do anything special to get SimPE to work, but I sure did!)

Side Note: When I added the M&G patch & went hunting for the folders.xreg file to delete, it wasn't there. I remember having to delete that file when I added the patchback when I had XP, but it is nowhere to be found now. SimPE is running cheerfully enough (now) so I'm hopeful this is just *one of those things* & not a loaming BFBVFS....
