Put the "must have" items in first (and cross your fingers.) If they all work, start slowly adding the rest until it stops working. Then live without the rest or try a different mix.
You could have different custom neighborhoods that use different CC, and then put the CC into folders for each neighborhood. When you aren't playing that neighborhood and aren't going to be using a particular piece of CC that folder can be on the desktop. You do want to delete your caches when you do that, and you want to be sure that any CC that is in use is still in the game, but if your problem really is "too many files" that is one way to reduce it without actually getting rid of anything from play.

My problem is I have no idea where, this time it crashed when I was changing display settings! It's crazy, I have no idea what to do... But nobody is probably able to help me, thank you very much anyway.

You can have it go through your Downloads and rename all walls, terrains, and floors to their in-game names instead of the random hex names they have now.
You might also want to use the Sims 2 Clean Installer to scan your Downloads. It identifies things, finds duplicate files and empty packages, and will even locate hacks that might have slipped in. Those can both help identify your CC so you can tell what you are working with.

thank you. I don't know whether the WTF editor helped me, but at least I renamed all those things, so it looks better. However, I have a new problem. I haven't downloaded anything new, I have no idea what I did, but whenever I save a lot, it literally looks like someone ate it and threw it up (in the neighborhood view)... When I open it, everything is ok, but in the neighborhood view, it is just messed up, there are texture errors and I can't see no walls, nothing -> it's not a low res version of the actual house, as it used to be... Have you got any clue on what I did wrong? Thanks

(When is the last time you took the panel off and blew the dust out of your computer?)
It might be time to ask at MTS.

Member since: 2010-08-31 Posts: 1 | Hi I have the exact same problem you have with the missing neighbour hoods. I know this is an old post but it is the only one I have found that is the same as my situation :(
I rebooted my pc so backed up my Sim folders and I have put them into the Documents Sims folder and when I go onto sims i have no neighbour hoods at all, only an option to make my own :(
I saw about renaming the files but i didnt understand fully and renamed all the lots in N001 to cx.000.. etc.. with one number above the lots in catalogue, but i didnt understand exactly what u meant so i prob read it wrong/did it wrong.
If any of u could please get back to me I would be so greatful Iv lost the sims iv had for years and worked so hard on.. building houses etc..
Thank you
