I installed SimPE for the first time but I can't open it. It gives an error. "The application couldn't start. (0xc0000135)Press OKAY to shut down." The same error comes up when I try to open the other programs. NET Test, Wizards of SimPE, Validator... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First: Try checking the "where can I get" FAQ to be sure you have everything.
Then try re-downloading to be sure that the download didn't get corrupt. You will need to uninstall the previous attempt and delete the folder to be sure it has a clean install. If that doesn't work, I'll see if Peter or Inge have any other ideas about what might be wrong.

Edit: I just remembered. Are you running it under an administrator account and with administrator privileges? Windows 7 isn't as obnoxious about it as Vista, but it is still picky about running a file that modifies other files that don't "belong" to it.

I think I've uninstalled and reinstalled it a total of 5 times. No luck. Also yes, I'm running as an administrator. And I've checked my .NET as well. It's the newest edition and it seems to be working fine.

I thought it might be something that was in Net 2 but not in Net 4 that was causing the problem, but I just put it on a 64 bit system with Windows 7 and Net 4, and it loaded nicely. (Although the Sims 2 isn't on this one, so I didn't get a chance to do much with it. It's amazing how fast it loads when there is no game installed!)

When you re-installed, did you make sure that you were giving it a new folder each time?

It should be set by default to NOT read the Downloads folder, so unless you changed that it wouldn't be a bad download interfering. But I suppose you could try temporarily changing the EA folder to "EA2" so it can't find it or anything in it. This probably won't help, but if it does it means that it's something in your game that is corrupt enough to cause trouble. Just remember to change the folder name back before you actually try to play the game.

(Can you tell that I'm starting to grasp at straws to figure this out? I hope Peter or Inge remember enough to have better ideas.)

Edit: is this the Windows-style error message, or the NET kind that has a box that also says something about enabling JIT debugging? If the latter, can you pull the corner of the box to expand it farther, and then copy/paste the entire error message here?

I seem to remember you had to install the right version of .net as well as any other you might have.

Yes, I made a clean install each time. It's a regular Windows error message. And making sure it couldn't read the downloads folder didn't help in any way.

I tried installing again after I installed Pets and it worked. How odd. Thanks for the help.
