Instead, I'm convinced and believe that's a better approach, and so I post that common wish here... Ghost, if my doing this offends you, come and slap me and I deserve that... :) Thanks for your nice suggestion... I like it. |

| As that was a reply in a thread started by someone else, I wouldn't dream of claiming the idea was entirely mine anyway. If you like it enough to put it in the wishlist, I'm happy that you liked it. |

| Absolutely *no* autocommit requested here thanks! |

| Then can the "do you wish to commit the changes you just made?" dialog that you get when you change tasks also be activated if you try to save with uncommitted changes? I agree, I would prefer not to have it auto-commit when I am trying to discard the changes. But if I click "save", I usually mean to keep the work I just did. And with a mis-click error, it is easier to restore a backup if unplanned changes were saved then it is to re-do 2 hours of work I forgot to commit before saving. I would like to at least be warned that I had not actually accomplished anything yet, and the save was meaningless. |

| Maybe it would be smart to add an autocommit option to the preferences. This way you have no new dialogue to click away (which would lead to myriads of questions from the technically challenged, because it's new and in none of the older tutorials). Autocommit would be usually unchecked in the preferences but can be activated by the users discretion. Maybe Ghosts suggestion should still be included if the user activates autocommit (maybe with a "never ask again" checkbox). |

| I think a "never ask again" checkbox is a great idea. |

| I like Ghost's suggestion of a "do you wish to commit the changes you just made?" dialog. I don't want it to always commit, as sometimes I don't want it to, but I equally often DO want it to, so a dialog would be great. Xanathon's suggestion that users can turn on this dialog in preferences also seems a good idea to me. Changes always confuse your average users, I work as a software developer for a small firm and I know that in the past we've just moved a tab control on the initial screen from the right of the screen to the left and we got so many calls from users who did not know how to use the application anymore because "It's all changed!" If it was a preference which defaulted to being off then only those who want it would turn it on. |

| I did not suggest to turn on the dialog in the preferences but the autocommit option itself. The dialogue of course only appears if autocommit is on.

| I keep forgetting the adage "Never underestimate the ingenuity of the fool." Yes, I suppose a setting in Preferences would be better. It would also help cut down on the number of people who find it and turn it on before they have learned to ALWAYS make a backup. |
