| This may be a stupid idea but in perusing various boards I have noticed many people who would not be good candidates to run SimPE. That said, by their very nature, these are the type of players that will more than likely be very heartbroken when something causes them to lose their hoods.
With this in mind, my thought is to split the neighborhood browser and backup manager off into a stand alone application, strictly for this type of user. While SimPE might intimidate them, SimBU would not I do not believe.
Just a thought, don't have a clue if it is even possible. |

| I think it is an excellent idea. Problem is finding the manpower to do it. With Quaxi busied out most of the time, and Peter really only with weekends at his disposal, it's all we can do just to keep up with necessary updates for the EPs and bugfixing. I don't think we'd want to be the front line name behind the neighborhood tool anyway because we know so little about the hood data and that's one of the huge reasons behind not actively encouraging anyone to edit their hoods and sims in SimPE, let alone the very people who would be more attracted to doing so by a less intimidating tool to do it with. For example, just look at the angst Mootilda went through wondering how safe was safe enough - and largely in the dark. |

| Understood.
I do not want to suggest the entire neighborhood tool though, just the browser functionality that shows the different hoods a user has is what I have in mind, not actually the ability to open them. The only option would be the backup manager, to create, or restore backups, which is just a file copy routine no? |

| Oh I see! I misunderstood your wish then. I thought you were looking for a standalone hood/sim editor. So do you mean just to reuse what SimPE already does at the hood browser level but without the rest of simpe loading? |

| Exactly, a stand alone backup tool nothing more. I am surprised one does not exist actually, at least if it does I have never stumbled on it. |

| There are quite a lot of seperate utils for CC, but I haven't seen anything for hoods. |

| I think they should just copy the whole Neighborhoods folder. The copy will be automatically named appropriately and datestamped. |

| That presupposes the person knows how to use Windows Explorer... |
