Member since: 2005-03-16 Posts: 97 | So lets say I downloaded something custom made from somewhere and it only came in one color and I wanted to make it another color, is there anyway to recolor it? I think I have read every single tutorial out there and I know some people (Numenor) are finding ways to color items that couldnt be colored... Lets keep in mind also that the thing I downloaded said nothing about anything other than it was a download, nor is there any way to ask the creator about it. Ok ok I download a bunny bear from the exchange, its pink, I want a blue one...I have tried everything under the sun and until the wee hours of the morn. I have crashed Sims numerous times trying numerous methods of cloning, including getting a new guid etc...all for naught. Is there anyway at all to turn this little bunny blue short of choking it to death? Oh and when I view my cloned and recolored bunny in SimPE, its there, its blue, it looks fine, but it doesnt show up in game.

Also if you can use the design tool on it. If you can but only one option is available then you should be able to create a color option for it (providing the object was correctly done in the first place). Probable the easiest way would be in Simpe check the load Object workshop fast option. The start object workshop, and click the tab to open object Find the original bunny bear package and select color options. This will create the recolor package for you. You should then beable to import your texture in. It's possible though that the object doesn't even support recolors.

Member since: 2005-03-16 Posts: 97 | no it doesnt support recolors, I get an emtpy file when I chose color enable. I have cloned it, recolored it and everything else I can think of in Simpe but to no avail, the only bunny that shows up one in game is the original. I can recolor the original one, one color at a time ie I can have it blue or pink or any other color I want, but only that color. I looked for the dts enabled option or something like that I forget which right now in Simpe and it doesnt have one in the container, definitions I forget where but I looked for it. I have been trying to debug this bear for a while now. I know people have found ways to recolor objects that didnt support recolors, I just wish I knew that seceret. I have followed all the tutorials I can find which mostly seem to do with creating new meshes rather than *just cloning to color*, and at this point I am simpe-ly running around in circles chasing tutorials and crashing my game lol...ah well at least I am learning along the way. ;)

Probably the best idea would be to contact the original mesh author and see if they can create a colour enabled version, or get permission to extract the mesh and use it in a new object that is color enabled.

Actually, sometimes the game treats it as a sim, instead of a normal object! I think it's too difficult to make it recolourable, if not impossible... But since you were not the first user to ask for it, I'll take a look at this terrible Bunny, maybe something can be done...

Member since: 2005-03-16 Posts: 97 | Numenor, you know you are my hero! And I did waste a guid on it, and it crashed my game! grrrrr I have been working on the little bugger for 26 hours straight now reading one tutorial after another....I have been trying this and that since it first came out and the only thing I can figure at this point is to rebuild it? Like you did with the stairs? Yes I did ask Maxiod through his guest book, although he hasnt approved my entry apparently because it still doesnt show up...I dont know how else to ask him. And yes this is a crazy little bunny, and I am stubborn...always wanting what I cant have! But my grandma said there is no such thing as impossible! lol And I want more stuffed animals dangit... But I have recolored the original bear to my hearts content, both the dirty and clean versions...but I want the bunny whhahaaa! :D Numenor, if you come up with any ideas will you share them with me so I can learn too? nectere@gmail.com

Member since: 2005-03-16 Posts: 97 | AHHHHHH!!!!!! How did you do it? Please please tell me how? Oh thank you thank you thank you!!!!! *bows humbly before your Greatness! Oh I have another question, I noticed that when I orginally installed lil chimera, it went to the teleport folder first and then only to the download folder after I opened Sims2 and then quit. It was the only way I could figure out (at the time) the name of the actual file to dink around with it. So my question is, why did it go to the teleport folder first?

Member since: 2005-03-07 From: Italy Posts: 380 | It's not easy to explain how I managed to recolour the Bunny, and anyway this is such a unique object that the method I used can't be applied to any other object. Basically, I studied the global BHAVs that make the Bunny work, and then I've created an internal file structure similar to the kitchen counter (clean/dirty). Oh, and I've created a "worn" texture! :) As for the teleport, it works that way because... Maxis wanted so! They wanted to avoid the many questions like "where should I install this package?", and so created this temporary folder: every time the game starts, everything placed in that folder is installed in the proper directory (always the download folder, except for the lots), and the installed files are renamed with those lovely tiny names like 019284afcd89311394XYZ#@!!.package :D I always use the Clean Installer: not only it lets me choose the installation folder, but it can restore the original (human) name of the files...
