Hey, I have never used this and have no idea what I'm doing! I downloaded a career plugin and tutorial and it was greyed out on the plugin menu so I was opening and closing different menus to find out how to activate it so I could experiment with it...
Now when I load the game, one of the neighborhoods, Pleasantville, is missing from the main game menu. All of the files for the neighborhood are in their proper folder and re-loading the backup for the neighborhood hasn't brought it back to the main menu??? It's still on the computer... so any clue as to what I may have done or can do to bring it back to the menu? Obviously without being able to access it on main game screen I can't really play it... any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

You don't need to download the career Plugin, it is already part of SimPE.

In fact the downloaded Version can cause Errors in SimPE. You get the carrer Plugin to show up, when you either install the base careers from the SimPe Homepage, or you open a thrid party base career package, you can find searching modthesims2.

So far, I foud that the most common reason for missing Neighborhoods is, that users did accidentially place a (manually created) backup copy of their Neighborhoods in "My Documenst/EA Games/The Sims 2" or one of it's subfolders.

The game is loading all package Files there when it starts up, and if you have a Neighborhood in there twice, they conflict with each other, making the disapear from the Selection Menu for securety reasons.

So you should check if you can find a Neighborhood twice there, and delete the copy or move it ot of the above mentioned Folder.

After your recieving your post, I checked my folder. There were duplicate backup copys of the neighborhood in my Sims folder. I copied those over to a folder on the desktop and removed any trace of them from the folders... and tried again. I still can't find the neighborhood! I made a manual backup copy of the folder when I first downloaded Sim PE about a month ago (prior to knowing that I could back it up from within the program,) and copied those files over, when I did that "Pleasantville" had returned, but without all of the changes I've made to it over the past month, obviously. So after ensuring that worked, I re-copied the most recent backup files over it and made sure to remove any duplicates and once again my neighborhood has dissapeared... Any suggestions on what my next course of action may be?

Yes, check the Neighborhood ID Resource in each neighborhood, and make sure that it is unique (you can do so with the Scan Folders Plugin, by doing a recursive Scan on the Neighborhood Folder. You also need to activate the Neighborhood Scanner).

Okay I know how to pull up the Neighborhood folder in the scan folder plugin but I'm not qite sure what is or how to perform a recursive scan or how to find out the Neighborhood Resource ID. Please specify for me... Sorry... I'm new to all this. Also, don't know if this gives you any clues, but when I tried to open up Family Ties I got an Error message that in detail read:
Message:

Recursive means, that you simply tick the "Recursive" Checkbox.

Then you also tick the "Neighborhood" Scanner on the First Tab and start.

When finished, SimPE will list you all Lots, Sims and neighborhoods. Sor the List by Neighborhood, and see if you can find one that is highlighted red, if it is you still have 2 Hoods with the same instance and therefor a Problem.

Which you could let SimPE try to Fix (on the Operations tab), but Make sure you have a working Backup copy before doing anything!

Okay... so I found out I couldn't do a recursive scan because I had an earlier version, (not sure which,) which didn't have that option available... nevertheless, I upgraded to the most recent one and did as you said... I found no neighborhoods outlined in red and no duplicate neighborhoods... so what's next?

Alright so negate the previous message... I did another scan tonight and found the neighborhood in red. Under the health column it says "incomplete directory" and when I tried to fix it, it popped up an error message that read:

I have version 0.35.1930.21496
I had been trying to create family ties for extended families and when changes were committed, there were duplicates and missing relationships everywhere, and I was just going in circles. So I decided to restore the backup I had made just before starting all that.
Restored Pleasantview, and it asked if I wanted to make a copy of this N before I backed up, so I said yes.
Pleasantview disappeared from the N-browser.
Went to the file and had the duplicate neighborhoods so I removed them to desktop and replaced the N manually to the file.
Looks like it would be easier to "back up" by copying the working N to desktop first isntead of using PE's back up manager if this is what happens. Is this the case in newer versions? Is there something else that should be done while backing up to avoid this?

Thanks for this great tool and all your help!

I am still working on the above:
Manually restored the most current version of my N which had the new families I was trying to tie together with Grandparents and cousins with an existing familyl. There were duplicate listings under the relationships tab which is why I was trying to start over with them.
But they are all gone. GONE.
They were definitely there before I backed up, and are now gone.
:(
In the folders of the two neighborhoods, there are more characters in the one I backed up before trying to restore, so my guess is that they are there, just not showing up. Any way I can access them and get them back, or would it be easier to just recreate them in create a family?
Thanks again.
Ruth
another note: some simsurgery I had done a couple of weeks ago has been undone.
