Member since: 2010-01-02 Posts: 11 | Hello everybody,
I'm sorry to bother but I have a problem I'm not able to solve. I have reinstalled my pc and backed up my documents/the sims 2 folder (and everything in it). When I tried to recover my old neighborhood (I copied the neighborhood folder from old documents to the new ones created by the new installation of Sims2), all neighborhoods have disappeared. I have no idea of solving this, therefore I'd like to ask you - is it at least possible to make houses that show up in catalog from .package files located in neighborhoods/n001/lots? I tried just copying them (to the sims 2/LotCatalog) but it doesn't work. If you know how to make the neighborhoods to appear again, it'd be even better.
Please, help me, I'm quite desperate.
Thank you very much.

(I know it's kind of a "duh" step, but I've put a zipped neighborhood into my game before...) This is also the point where you can briefly double check to be sure everything is all using the right neighborhood number, since the neighborhood isn't going to work if the numbers are wrong somewhere.
There are several free programs that will do a batch search or search and replace in file names, so you might want to use one to search for "N0" (that's a zero) to be sure there is only one neighborhood number. If there is more than one, you can do a batch replace on one (or both) of them to get it back to one number.
If the folder is uncompressed, has everything it needs, and is properly named, putting it in the right place in My Documents should work.

thanks for answer, but unfortunately, it doesn't work. Everything looks like it should... I've succeeded in opening the lots in Sims2Pack Clean Installer, but I cannot find any way of copying them to lot catalog.

I'm still trying to figure out why restoring the neighborhoods didn't work. It sounds as though it should have....
In the Neighborhoods folder underneath all the neighborhoods, is there a separate package called NeighborhoodManager? There should be. That was what keeps track of all your neighborhoods, so if it went missing it might be why the neighborhoods went missing in your game. Or it might just be that you still have the one from the game that you restarted and it needs to be refreshed by Creating a new neighborhood so that it will pick up the new neighborhoods that are already there?

renaming the lots to the cx format works.
Why the neighborhoods disappeared I still have no idea. The folder is as it should be, the only thing I did before they actually disappeared was that I copied all lots from "n001" folder. That's it, I didn't change anything else. I even tried to copy the whole backed up neighborhoods folder (which worked before), but it had the same result.
However, since I figured out how to recover my old houses, the problem is solved, I can build a new neighborhood, it's not a problem.
Now I have another problem, it's an old problem, but I was hoping reinstalling the pc and everything would solve it. I have downloaded loads of new content (loads means thousands of new objects - almost 4 GB). And at some point, I can't exactly remember when, the game started crashing. I think it didn't happen after downloading lots of new stuff, so I don't think it's happening because of one malfunctioning object. I can't even say when exactly it crashes. Usually when I'm exiting to neighborhood screen, when I try to save the game or load a house. Now even when I'm moving around the neighborhood scr. You probably understand that trying every single object is impossible, even if I had million hours to try it, I might not figure it out because I can't make the game crash (I don't know what to do exactly if I want it to crash). Is there anything you could suggest? Is there any application that could test my downloaded content?
I'd be very happy if you could give me some suggestion. It drives me totally crazy.
Thank you very much | |

Otherwise, all I can suggest is the old time-consuming binary search where you take out half of the CC and see if the problem went away. Then put it back and test the other half. Then test half the bad stuff to see if the problem is in that half or the other half. Etc.
Since the problem is random crashing, it's going to be rather hard to tell if it went away, so a binary search is going to be harder to work. I hope for your sake it turns out that you have some conflicting hacks that you can do without. (Hint: InTeen tends to conflict with quite a lot of things, so if you have that you probably do have some hack conflicts going on.)

Hey,
Thank you again, I've downloaded and run the HDU, but unfortunately it hasn't found any conflicts. I'm afraid the crashing can be caused simply by having too big buildings with too many objects in them. If that's the case there is no help, probably. What do you think?
Anyway, I'm gonna try binary search. I've done it before, it took a lot of time and it helped. However, back then I knew that there was a malfunctioning object, so I was pretty sure it was gonna help.
If you think of something, anything else that might help, I'll be very grateful.
Thanks.

Actually any item that is too high poly could be a factor if you have too many in a lot, but hair is the biggest culprit because it is easy to forget that the really nice hairstyle that you have put on 20 sims has a higher poly count than the car!
But yes, large lots with lots of stuff in them take a lot of processing power and if your system can't handle it, it won't.

thanks again. The problem is probably even bigger than it seems. I haven't downloaded anything for sim characters (no hair, make-up, clothes, nothing), I only use the game for building.
I'm trying to solve the problem by splitting the downloads, but it doesn't work with any of the parts. Everytime I load many objects, the game crashes. Or at least one lot which I use for testing (It's probably the most demanding one). There is probably no problem with my hardware, either. (I have intel core i7, 4GB DDR3, GeForce 8800GTX - which is old, but still works well).
I'm really getting lost here...

Member since: 2006-03-19 Posts: 775 | Well, at least you do know how to make it crash. It would be a lot harder to test if you didn't have a lot that crashed every time.
(Unless the lot still crashes with all the CC removed. Then it's just a bad lot and you need a new test lot.)
Otherwise instead of binary, it looks like you are stuck with even smaller pieces. :(
