First, I am sorry I posted this in the wrog spot. I had missed seeing this one. I have a touch of dyslexia, but it has not stopped me from programming, only slows me down a bit.

The screen here is the lots section of a neighborhood package.

Setting the link to the apartmentbase from the sublot works, however the "Apartments" field appears to be read only, not allowing me to add in aptsublots to the apartment base.

What I am doing is repairing links in the apartmentbase, sublots, and the inhabiting familys in a superhood I have, everything else injected 100%.

THe pattern I use here is a variation on "Merging the Maxis Neighborhoods" from MorAwesomeThanYou" ( http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,4480.0 ) , in this case adding in Belladonna Cove to a superhood constructed under Freetim and the older SimPE. Unlike the tutorial, I add these as "suburbs" so as to avoid random generation of new downtownies after the fact.

As things stand, the Maxis/EAxis installer is not built to handle the linkage between apartmentbase, apartmensublot, and family dwelling in a sublot during a suburb install, data indicates it simply ifnores them as the lot instances remain unaltered from the original after suburb install.

The Apartbase field in which the apartment sublots inked into the base is wher I am having trouble as it accepts no entry of sublot instance IDs which would hopefully complete the broken chain. All the houses install and update correctly with this method.

Will this be enabled in future perchance?

I think you're asking to add to the list of sublots.  The fields at the side are disabled until you select a sublot -- which you can't do if there aren't any! :)

At the time we got the thing working, it wasn't know exactly how accurate we'd managed to be.  It seems we didn't do too badly.  I'm meant to have a task to tidy the form up (it's a bit busy at the moment) and I could provide for adding and removing entries.

Should this feature update the sublots to link back to their new parent lot (and possibly update a former parent lot)?  I think that might be too dangerous myself.
