Then after the baby turned into a toddler I used simpe to give him his moms last name, and change everyones relationship to reflect this. No problems there. A few days later I'm playing in the specter household with Ophilia, Johnny and their son, (Nervous and Sunshine live with Pascal) I checked the family tree a few times out of boredom, everything was normal. Right before I went to save I checked on the Nanny, she was out mopping up puddles from the death by drowning ghost, right as I was checking on her, she got scared to death. Luckily dad was home anyways. It'd been a while since I saved so I let it stick. Day or so later, I was showing my sister the lot to show that a nanny had died there, went into family tree, and the pictures for Ophielia's parents were gone. Hover over them and they show the right name but they're gone. Went into SimPE, checked them otu, their relationships were all gone. Had to wiggle through and figure out who they're all related to, fixed that all, and then went back. No change. Names still but no pictures. Went into her family ties thing, deleted them both, and readded. Came back, played for a little bit, exited, and went back, still no pictures. Is there anyway I can fix this? Will not having the pictures be bad for my game?

You might want to ask at MTS about that. Do they have a picture when you look at them in SimPE? I know they are going to show as "No character data" sims if they do have a picture, but SimPE pulls the thumbnail from the game. If SimPE can find it, then there is a problem in the game. If not, it's a problem with the files. Make a regular backup of your game, just in case. You might also want to keep more than one of them, since you've already noticed that weirdness can take a while to show up. If you really need to get the pictures back, you can probably copy the character files from another game or from the disk, and paste them into your character files folder. This -definitely- warrants a backup first! And keep that backup safe for a long time. (Of course if you are getting them from another game, you have a backup because you made it when you moved your real game out to get the new one. You need to remove all 3 Maxis neighborhoods to get them to regenerate a new set. Just remember that when you are putting them back, copy instead of move when you get to your game. You can zip the backups to take up less room.)

Err, copying character files over another sounds a bit too risky for me to try. Unless there's a way to pinpoint copying over just those two.
I've already got a post up in MTS, because I saw you directing someone else to it. :) They haven't given me an answer yet though.

If you open the Sim Browser, you can find the character number for any sim that it can find. (In fact, the first order they are listed in is by character number until you re-sort the list.) That will be the same in every game in an EA hood that isn't having a meltdown (AKA BFVFS), because they were pre-made and installed with the game. Only the sims that occur after you have installed will have differing numbers from game to game. Your first Playables have the lower numbers, then the NPCs and townies. A custom neighborhood might end up with different numbers for the later sims, but Veronaville already has playables created so the numbering should have been set.
(If you were having a meltdown, the numbers would have been taken over by other sims, and SimPE would no longer find the old ones in your current game.)
Keep a backup, just in case. But once you find the character numbers for the right sims, you can find them as files elsewhere and just copy those and paste them into your game. If you have an old backup, you can get it from there to be extra sure you have the right ones. The Character number is also the file name.
