I'm getting this error message suddenly. I would like to know what to do to get rid of it.

Member since: 2006-03-19 Posts: 788 | What are you trying to open? Back when Spore first came out, it was discovered that SimPe at the time would open the Spore package files, and then have no idea what to do with them. So it was set up so that it would make sure that what it was trying to open was actually a Sims 2 file. Sims 3 also uses package files. SimPE won't open them, either. But the Spore dialog was never changed.
This error occurs when you are trying to open a package that is not a Sims 2 file. If you are not selecting a package file to open, you probably have a Sims 3 file in your Downloads, and have your downloads path set in your File Tables. If this is the case, you need to take the Downloads path out of the file table.
You probably also want to get the Sims 3 files out of your game. If you don't know which one it is, Delphy's Dashboard was set up to help get Sims 2 files out of a SIms 3 game, so you could run that, and ignore all the errors. The files you want to get rid of are the ones it likes. If it says that something is corrupt, DO NOT fix it! I'm not sure if it will pick up corruption in a Sims 2 file or not, so to be safe just move it to a separate directory and check it with SimPE and Clean Installer. If SimPE doesn't open it, it's a Sims 3 file. If it's a Sims 2 file and Clean Installer likes it, you can ignore the Dashboard's verdict.

I forgot to add that it does this when the program opens, before it is finished loading. I have to hit OK to get rid of the message before the program will continue to load. The splash screen says Loading Custom ._GLOBALS
It's for sure a sims 2 package, I am cloning a base game item. I don't have the sims 3, and no hacks. I have updated with the M&G patch, as well. It never gave me the error until I installed the latest version of SimPE. I have all expansions and stuff packs installed. Could my SimPE be corrupt?

Member since: 2006-03-19 Posts: 788 | When you installed, did you do a clean install, or did you let it use the old SimPE folder? Does your game work with no problems? And does your new object have new globals attached to it?
I suppose it's possible that you need to download and install SimPE again. (Be sure to give it a new folder) I'm not sure when the Downloads gets loaded if it's in the file table, but it does load absolutely everything before it settles down and tells you it's loaded and you can start using it now. (which is why it takes long enough to do a few chores while you wait.) So if you have a bad file in the game or in Downloads, it will be trying to read it. That could also be the problem.
But that message is set to happen when it encounters a package file that is not in Sims 2 format, so if a clean reinstall doesn't help I would still be very suspicious of the game files it's trying to read. (Which is everything in the File Table, including the object you were cloning.) I would also try removing the object I was working with and cloning something else in case I had accidentally found one of the items that doesn't clone properly. (In fact, I might do that before trying a reinstall. It's easier than resetting all my options again.)
