I "lost" a sims family of two, when I bring up the Sim Brower it shows their faces with a blackness over them and under the Availible tab it says "no Charactor File" and when I mouse over it it says "Unlinked Sim, No Charactor on file" What does that mean?

When I play the game curantly they are in the sims bin, their name is there but there is no picture and when I place them on a lot, the cut scene plays but there is no Sims in it and then when it ends it goes staight to build/buy mode. There is no play mode even though when you go back to the neighborhood it says they are there with the plumbob. How do I get them back?

"No Character File" means there is no data for the sim. All you have is a picture. If you've got an earlier saved game with the sims in it, you might be able to recover them from that, but you would certainly want to back up the neighborhood first. (And you might want to consider just restoring the saved game.)

If you need more details on how to do that, MTS is probably a better place to ask.

hey thank you so much for responding! that helped. i ended up just "cloning" the sims to get them back, IE created new sims that look really a like the old ones then i punched in the numbers from the old sims. they work just fine now. i however did completely lose another family that i was trying to link the orginal family to make them realtives. i dont have their numbers.. oh well. i can always just recreate them.

and this all happened because i messed with the Fami Edit, and didnt back up my nieghborhood because i didnt think you had to save right away.  well no more! i will now backup every chance i get and NEVER play with the Fami Edit lol

Remember to back up the entire Hood if you're planning on playing with any of it.  It's the only way to be sure restoring is going to work.
