In the current SimPE versions, the direct .obj file importer does not work for BodyShop parts (clothing, hair, etc meshes)

Also with the newer versions of SimPE it is not possible to successfully use a hair/clothing mesh converted to a GMDC by the MeshTool.

I do not mean the "xyz" thing here, I know how to handle that - but if I use any recent versions of SimPE, the GMDC from the MeshTool will always "explode" even when I test it with absolutely no editing done to it at all.

This means in order to edit a hair/clothing mesh in the .obj format, I must use an older version of SimPE ( I use v .32 for this)

But it would be much better if this could be done without resorting to an older SimPE version.

So my wish would be if the .obj importer could be updated to work as the MeshTool does for body parts - integrating the new vertex locations back into the existing GMDC file while leaving the assignments and other data alone.

Or else to make newer releases of SimPE compatible with the MeshTool generated GMDC files again.

Is there a solution to this yet?

This is the wishlist, and it is not even known that this change will be picked up and made, as its not a functional break or real issue as the GMDC importer works as spec'ed.

Interesting, when using Milkshape I usually use the UniMesh tools as they work better then other tools and it imports without issue into the current GMDC importer and file.

As for the GMDC importer in simPE the obj importer has been a different importer then the use of Delphy's mesh tool, as it was originally, and this change was made so that the GMDC importer would work with a true obj format and not require the interim step of the Mesh Tool.  I am afraid that if it goes back to compatibility/using the old mesh tool other tools will then break, meaning that there would need to be almost 2 importers to really support.  Not sure that is worth the coding it would take to do with Sims2 ending in 8 months.

A better idea, I think would to create a small plugin that would correct import mesh tool obj files in to the GMDC file.  That's if someone out there wants to create a new plugin.  That might be a solution sans this ever making it into a design spec.

This is the wishlist

I know.  I was just deleting the "done" stuff.  We've nearly exhausted the bugs so Peter was preparing to work on some wishes.  So I was just looking for a yes or no to whether it was done. really.

Ah -sorry though it was an addition issue.

Essentially it has been done, just in a different way then the OP wanted.  Its been fine for body meshers since they redid their process and the UniMesh stuff came out...

Maybe other wishes :)

The Delete key suits me fine.  No offence to the OP but I need to keep things tidy :D
