V.48b - Docked OW - Cloning options

I was updating the SimPE Handbook about the OW options and I've found a couple of things (not exactly bugs: they are more questions and suggestions...).

1) Remove non-default languages.
I have the Sims installed in English, and I always use SimPe in English, as well. If I set SimPE to Italian, in the resulting package there is only the Italian description, but into the English section of the text file. Maybe I've simply misunderstood? Maybe this option means that removing all the non-default languages will make OW store the default language in the first available text slot (that we use to call English, but if there's only one slot, the language specification is useless).
And a question: exactly, what files are affected by this option? The catalog description for sure, but not the Pie Menu String. What about the TextLists?

2) Use of the "Remove non-default languages" together with the "Change Description" option.
When the "Change Description" option is active, OW will always remove the non-default languages (obviously). But some users may get confused, thinking that the two option may be freely combined.
I suggest to "bind" the two options this way:
- When *checking* the "Change Description", OW automatically checks the "Remove non-default L.", too.
- When *unchecking* the "Remove...", OW automatically unchecks the "Change D."
NOTE: this doesn't mean that the two options must always be in the same state. When the "Change" is OFF, the other one can be freely set to ON or OFF; but when the "Change" is ON, the other one must be set to ON, too.

It doesn't sound right that it should be putting the user's own national language into the default language. It should leave the existing strings there and delete the Italian. You would only put Italian strings into the default language if you intended to make an object for Italian use and did not wish to, or could not, support English at all.

When you use the string editor at other times, not during cloning an object, does it put Italian into the default strings if you ask for "Default lang only"?

Where are you getting this "change description" option from? I don't seem to have the same SimPe as you or am I just using the wrong Object Workshop?

Since 0.48 (i think), the object workshop offers a new option "change description" if you clone an object, where you can change price, titel etc.

It's right beneath those buttons for "pull wallmasks" etc.

Greetings

hm, you've been the one downloading that "corrupted" version from sourceforge, right? maybe you should try out the main download version on the downloads page. I got it from there and i got this button

Could do, but I don't like having it install itself really, cos I am using all manner of versions testing PJSE. I downloaded the latest sourceforge version only this very morning.

Inge, that option is available only for the GUI version and for the docked OW: neither the Classic SimPE nor the windowed OW support that option.

You said some time ago that you often use the classic SimPE, so I guessed that maybe that was the problem.

As for the language problem, what is simPE supposed to do when an Italian user selects "only default language"? You are more expert than me, but I think that when there are multiple languages, there are multiple arrays, each with its language code (0x01 = US English and so on...).
On the contrary, when there is only the default language, there should be only 1 array (probably coded 0x01, that doesn't mean US English, in this case); not many empty arrays among which only one contain text.

If I'm wrong, then there is a bug in the OW. In any case, my suggested solution should work fine with the game (if there is only an Italian text in the array 0x01, the game displays it unregarding the game language); and the file size should be smaller (no useless "empty" arrays).

"Remove default Language references" (or whatever it is called, i don't remember at the moment :D) shoud not change your CTSS or regular textResource, if it is, this is a Bug.

The Idea of that Option was this. Take Animation TextList (I think instance 0x88 is one of them). they did contain Animation References in each language, which could potentially be used to play diffrent Animations for diffrent Sim Version. When you check that Option, SimPE will only keep the Animation specified in the default language (English), and delete all other ones. This option should only change Reference Text List (Model TexList, Animation Text List), but it ignore the CTSS

The "Change Description" is intende to set the CTSS for an Object to the specified Values. hence deleting all other Language Version.

Well I used the new GUI, I usually do when I am trying to replicate someone else's problem. But I don't know what Docked OW means I must admit. Does OW give different menus depending on whether it's docked somewhere or not?

Anyway, is this a problem with the textlist plugin? That's what I am trying to find out mainly, so Peter can fix it if it is.
