UH!

I installed FreeTime and suddenly on my legacy lots, both of which had 6 very important graves/ghosts, all the graves have disappeared. I don't even dare access my community graveyard now.

Why on earth has this happened? Is there anyway to recover lost gravestones?

I can't believe it... I worked so hard on those =(

Do you have Pescado's FFS debbuger, and Inge's teleporter cat in your games custom content? If so, browse the default family for one of your vanished sims. With the game paused, pop them onto the lot. Take control of them, and somewhere on the batman box, there should be an option to re-spawn tombstone. It may be on the shift click pie tree.

I'm pretty sure I don't have either of those. Should I install them in order to try this? Where would I find their files?

Thanks very much for your help :)

The FFS debugger can be found at MATY, it is one of JM Pescado's hacks:

Inge's teleporter can be found at Simlogical:

The cat is one of my all time favorite mod for the Sims 2.

After I made these posts I stopped playing the Sims 2 for a long while.

I would really like to have another go at my legacy lots again and am trying to find ways of bringing the lost dead Sims/graves/ghosts back.

It seems to be the exact same problem found here: http://simpeforum.ambertation.de/forum/viewpost/17474#17474 and here: http://simpeforum.ambertation.de/forum/viewpost/22358#22358 i.e. the graves just disappeared (I didn't delete them) and once the lots are saved the sims appear blue (unlinked) until I replace the character data with older backups. But this doesn't recover the graves.

I then used the items suggested in this thread to summon the Sims (who are accessible once the character data is replaced), but I now have no idea how to kill them in such a way that each returns to their original ghost form: i.e. 1 died by electrocution, one by drowning, one by fire, the rest by old age or starvation, except by putting the ressurrected characters back through each death, which would be inconvenient.

Is anyone still on here who could help?

I remember that there was something that let you set ghost types, but I don't remember what it was. It might be the Sim Blender from simbology.  If it was the Insiminator, use at your own risk... We used to recommend it, but now it isn't supported anymore so we recommend the Sim Blender instead. It does almost everything Insim did, although Insim is still good for generating small items to use as props for pictures.

I ended up using this:

http://community.livejournal.com/pixel_trade/26093.html

A very good and appropriate guide, seemed to work well, and the initial problem seems to be fixable, though doing for each individual dead Sim will be... painstaking.

However, my neighborhood still seem majorly glitchy.

Most sims I've done this ^ to have retained grey backgrounds and it seems fine (though I've yet to see their ghosts). But two turned blue, so I reinserted previous character data... which changed nothing. So I had to relink them manually. And now one completely unrelated and living Sim has gone red... and when I replaced the character file with the one from a back up of when the portrait was grey, it remained red too.
